Question
Does the Minister have any plans to reduce the 3m limit from the property boundary for air source heat pumps to bring it in line with the 1m limit in England and Scotland?
Answer
Answered by Minister for Climate Change
We are currently considering how air source heat pump regulations can be simplified to support more widespread uptake of the technology.
We have conducted research to establish the case for reviewing air source heat pump permitted development rights in Wales, including the 3-metre rule, and to provide a context for the consideration of heat pump noise issues. The report ‘Air-Source Heat Pump Noise and Permitted Development Rights in Wales’, was published on 11th January.
The Welsh Government’s research, and ongoing UK Government work, will inform any future changes to permitted development rights in Wales.
