Question
How is the Minister encouraging schools to develop a reading culture in which reading for pleasure is a priority, in light of the findings of the Estyn chief inspector's annual report?
Answer
Answered by Minister for Education and the Welsh Language
My written statement of 29 November 2023 sets out my plans to raise standards of literacy for all learners across Wales this includes developing a reading culture.
Through annual grant funding to the Books Trust Cymru and Books Council for Wales we provide high quality reading resources to all children, from as young as 6 months old, and their families encouraging a reading culture within the home.
