Question
How is the Welsh Government supporting early career social workers?
Answer
Answered by Deputy Minister for Social Services
The Welsh Government funds Social Care Wales who have put in place guidance and a comprehensive framework for NQSWs entitled First three years in practice (socialcare.wales). This brings together what is expected of social workers and their employers and provides a framework for social work employers to develop their own model of support for the first three years of a social workers professional practice. This sits in conjunction with the code of practice for social care employers Employers-code.pdf (socialcare.wales). The document also states that NQSWs are expected to engage in this process and refers to practice guidance for social workers . Practice-guidance-social-workers.pdf (socialcare.wales). Social workers who qualified in Wales on or after 1 April 2016 complete the Consolidation programme which forms part of the first three years in practice framework.
