Question
Will the Cabinet Secretary provide the number of students taking up universal free school meals by a) local authority; and b) year group?
Answer
Answered by Cabinet Secretary for Education
The information you have requested is not held by Welsh Government. While we do not collect data on number of pupils taking up the universal primary free school meal offer at this time, we do collect data on the number of meals served. However, this information is not routinely published as it is unverified grant management information and not official statistics. Further information can be found in the following Freedom of Information Request, published July 2023.
The universal provision of free school meals in primary schools is being carried out in collaboration with Siân Gwenllian MS, the Plaid Cymru lead designated member, as part of the Co-operation Agreement between the Welsh Government and Plaid Cymru.
