Question
What measures is the Welsh Government implementing to support farmers in Aberconwy struggling with the adverse effects of the wet weather during this season?
Answer
Answered by Cabinet Secretary for Climate Change and Rural Affairs
The impact the prolonged wet weather is having on our farmers and growers has been significant and I was pleased to host an Extreme Weather Summit on 18 April to examine the impacts of the current and prolonged wet weather, and to explore what we can do across the supply chain to deal with the circumstances.
I encourage farmers and growers who are facing difficulties to reach out for help - whether to farming charities for mental health and wellbeing support, or Rural Payments Wales to discuss concerns about meeting grant contract or cross compliance requirements as a result of this prolonged wet weather period.
We will continue to engage and have committed to convene regular meetings with representatives, and I will be updating Members regarding follow up actions shortly.
