Question
Why was the Treherbert line closed for 10 months when Transport for Wales primarily conducted work at night, and will the Cabinet Secretary provide records of the works carried out on this line and the time of day they were done?
Answer
Answered by Cabinet Secretary for North Wales and Transport
The transformation of the Treherbert Line required the complete replacement of the signalling system and it was not possible to operate any passenger services on the line until it was fully commissioned. Full access to the track over the nine-month closure period allowed Transport for Wales to carry out the transformation in the shortest possible timescale.
The majority of transformation works were completed in the daytime with some night works necessary to achieve the planned schedule.
I have asked TfW to provide you with full details of the work which was carried out on the Treherbert Line during this period.
