Question
Will the Cabinet Secretary confirm what Welsh Government support is provided to people with trichotillomania?
Answer
Answered by Minister for Mental Health and Early Years
Trichotillomania can be a complex and distressing condition. It is part of a spectrum of obsessive compulsive disorders and not infrequently related to anxiety disorders. As such, people have access to support and treatment via their GP, Local Primary Mental Health Support Services, and online resources such as SilverCloud. More complex presentation may require a specialist referral.
We have established the Strategic Programme for Mental Health within the NHS Executive with the aim of improving the quality, safety, accessibility, and experience across all mental health services. This includes improving access to psychological therapies, which would include help for someone with trichotillomania.
