Question
What is the Welsh Government doing to improve sports facilities in schools across Pembrokeshire?
Answer
Answered by Cabinet Secretary for Education
Investing in sports facilities is a key commitment in our Programme for Government and is integral to our nation’s health and wellbeing. Through the capital funding we provide to Sport Wales, National Governing Bodies of Sport collaborate with each other and local authorities to invest strategically in community sports facilities or facilities which can be made available for community use, including those on school sites and college campuses. A recent example of this successful collaboration is the £12,501 investment in the upgrade of the Tennis court at Ysgol Caer Elen, in Haverfordwest, through the Court Collaboration Group.
The Sustainable Communities for Learning programme and the Community Focused Schools Capital Grant also provide funding to local authorities to develop sports facilities within their schools. Significant investment has been made across Pembrokeshire through theses funding programmes including investment in the Pembrokeshire Sports Village which is attached to Haverfordwest High VC School. Investment in sporting facilities will continue through the rolling programme over the next nine years.
