Question
How is the Welsh Government supporting carbon capture in industries in west Wales?
Answer
Answered by Cabinet Secretary for the Economy, Transport and North Wales
The Welsh Government continues to work with industry, stakeholders, and lead trade associations to ensure successful industrial decarbonisation that meets our just transition and net-zero obligations. We fund Net Zero Industry Wales, which is working in partnership with a wide range of energy and carbon intensive industries and academia to enable them to decarbonise their industrial processes.
NZIW has several priorities that will support industry in developing decarbonisation pathways towards net zero. Stakeholders in west Wales, particularly in the Milford Haven area, are currently undertaking feasibility and engineering studies on potential carbon capture use and storage solutions and are now considering significant next stage investments. These could be critical in enabling decarbonisation of industrial assets in the Haven and accelerating decarbonisation solutions more widely in south Wales.
