Question
What is the Welsh Government's strategy to reduce the levels of energy debt in Wales?
Answer
Answered by Cabinet Secretary for Culture and Social Justice, Trefnydd and Chief Whip
We have a multi-pronged approach to reducing the levels of energy debt in Wales:
• we are working with Ofgem officials to get meaningful data on the level of debt for householders in Wales
• we are encouraging households concerned about their energy bills and level of debts to contact the free Nest helpline
• our Nest advisors can direct householders through to Citizens Advice for debt management support who run an in-depth handholding service
• we also encourage householders struggling to pay their bills to contact their energy suppliers
• officials have also written to energy suppliers asking them to confirm what support they can offer their customers who are struggling to pay their bills.
