Question
What work is the Welsh Government doing to prevent future flooding following last week's torrential rain?
Answer
Answered by Deputy First Minister and Cabinet Secretary for Climate Change and Rural Affairs
I offer my heartfelt sympathies to those who were affected by the recent flash flooding in early September. This highlights the importance of reducing the consequences of flooding and creating more resilient communities in Wales.
Approximately 102,000 properties already benefit from our network of flood defences.
This financial year 2024-25, the Welsh Government is investing a record £75 million under our Flood and Coastal Erosion Risk Management Programme, despite immense pressure on the public purse. The 2024-25 Programme will deliver significant progress towards our Programme for Government commitment.
