Question
Will the Cabinet Secretary provide an update on what action the Welsh Government is taking to promote Welsh culture?
Answer
Answered by Minister for Culture, Skills and Social Partnership
The Welsh Government has recently concluded a consultation on new draft Priorities for Culture which include a number of ambitions focusing on promoting Welsh culture. Draft ambition 11, ‘culture has a high profile in how our nation is marketed to visitors’, considers how promoting culture can be embedded in tourism approaches. Draft ambition 13 states ‘the profile of culture in Wales is raised by celebrating and promoting culture at a local, national and international level’, and draft ambition12 emphasises the importance of embedding culture into how Wales establishes and develops international relations. In addition, the Welsh Government is also working with the UK Government on how to take forward a four-nation approach to supporting and promoting intangible cultural heritage.
The Welsh Government’s support for our national cultural bodies, our local archives, libraries and museums sectors, our investment in Celf – the National Contemporary Art Galler for Wales and a range of other capital investment programmes supports and promotes access to culture across Wales.
You should also consider the response to your separate question (WQ94300) on how the Welsh Government is promoting museums as this is part of how we promote culture.
