Question
Will the Cabinet Secretary make a statement on the total amount of income tax raised by taxpayers domiciled in Wales for the last three financial years?
Answer
Answered by Cabinet Secretary for Finance and Welsh Language
Using the latest outturn statistics for Welsh income tax, in 2022-23 there were approximately 1,492,500 people liable for the Welsh rates of income tax.
Over the last 3 years for which outturn is available - 2020-21, 2021-22, and 2022-23 - Welsh taxpayers paid £4.9bn, £5.5bn, and £6.1bn in non-savings non-dividend income tax. Within those totals, the Welsh rates of income tax accounted for £2.1bn, £2.4bn, and £2.6bn.
