What guidance has the Welsh Government put in place to ensure that medical professionals minimise waste and prioritise efficient use of resources?

As per WQ94421, the NHS Wales Decarbonisation Strategic Delivery Plan includes targets and initiatives to reduce healthcare waste:

• Supporting best practice for a reduction in pharmaceutical waste

• To look to tackle PPE, single use plastics and packaging waste

• To engage with pharmacists and prescribers to encourage the responsible disposal of inhalers.

The sustainable procurement hierarchy is closely followed where NHS Wales will look to reduce, re-use and recycle as far as possible.
