Question
What discussions has the Cabinet Secretary had with Tesco about the reasons behind Tesco Pharmacies in Wales being unable to offer free blood pressure checks to over-40s alongside flu vaccinations, unlike those in England?
Answer
Answered by Cabinet Secretary for Health and Social Care
Free blood pressure checks are not part of NHS contractual arrangements for community pharmacies in Wales however some pharmacies may choose to offer them. This is a business decision for individual pharmacies.
Where pharmacies offer screening services, they should be integrated in care pathways which ensure the results of screening are properly interpreted, acted on appropriately, and do not result in unnecessary referrals to other NHS services.
