Question
Will the Cabinet Secretary provide an update on what actions they are taking to make train stations safe spaces?
Answer
Answered by Cabinet Secretary for Transport and North Wales
CCTV is in operation on Transport for Wales trains to protect passengers, and all Transport for Wales services are operated with a conductor who have body-worn cameras. The brand-new trains being introduced thanks to our £800m investment in new fleets are fitted with the latest CCTV equipment. Transport for Wales are upgrading the stations on the Core Valley Lines to provide improved lighting and CCTV and are working with Network Rail to deliver improvements at stations outside of the CVL. Transport for Wales also work closely with the British Transport Police, including carrying out joint patrols to provide a visible presence across the network and holding shared briefings to target resources where they are most needed.
