Question
What analysis has the Welsh Government carried out on the potential financial implications for Welsh social landlords and tenants that could result from the judgement in the High Court case of Coastal Housing Group Ltd v Mitchell & Anor (2024) EWHC 2831 (Ch)?
Answer
Answered by Cabinet Secretary for Housing and Local Government
In relation to the court case you reference, as this is ongoing litigation it would not be appropriate for me to comment at this stage.
However, I take this matter extremely seriously and my officials and I are continuing to work very closely with Community Housing Cymru and other stakeholders to help protect the interests of landlords and contract-holders in Wales.
More generally, the Renting Homes (Wales) Act 2016 is subject to a three-year independent evaluation to assess the early impacts of the Act on landlords, tenants, and the rental sector overall in Wales. We will be carefully considering any recommendations from that work.
