Question
Will the Cabinet Secretary provide an estimate of the cost in each of the last five years of providing interpreters in the NHS in Wales, excluding Welsh to English or English to Welsh?
Answer
Answered by Cabinet Secretary for Health and Social Care
The Welsh Government does not currently hold information on the costs of providing interpreters in the NHS in Wales (excluding Welsh to English or English to Welsh) for the last five years, as these costs are born by the health boards and trusts in Wales.
The Welsh Government remains committed to improving access to health care services for all patients in their preferred language, including British Sign Language and community languages. This is being supported by the All-Wales Standards for Communication and Information for People with Sensory Loss, and commitments in the Anti-racist Wales Action Plan.
