Question
What discussions has the Welsh Government had with the University of Wales Trinity Saint David about their intention to stop all undergraduate courses at the Lampeter campus?
Answer
Answered by Minister for Further and Higher Education
The University contacted my Officials to notify them of its proposal to move the undergraduate humanities provision from its Lampeter campus to its Carmarthen campus. Officials have been monitoring the situation and will undertake discussion with the University as required.
I understand that this announcement may have caused concern for those affected. However, as an autonomous institution, the University is responsible for its own academic affairs, including the strategic management of its estate. Therefore, it would not be appropriate for Welsh Ministers to intervene. The decision to close any campus or facilities is one to be made by the University.
