Question
How much has the Welsh Government allocated in its capital budgets towards the development of artificial intelligence to improve productivity in local government in Wales?
Answer
Answered by Cabinet Secretary for Housing and Local Government
The Welsh Government provides unhypothecated capital grant to local authorities, with no monies earmarked for specific activities such as artificial intelligence. The amount for 2024-25 is £180m, of which £91.2m is general capital grant and £88.8m supported borrowing. This funding gives local authorities the flexibility to determine and focus funding on local priorities.
The Welsh Government also provides grant funding to the Welsh Local Government Association for them to administer a Digital and Improvement Programme for local government.
