Question
What assessment has the Cabinet Secretary made of the quality of management at health boards in Wales?
Answer
Answered by Cabinet Secretary for Health and Social Care
The quality of management within health boards is considered as part of the NHS Wales oversight and escalation process, which was published in January 2024. The framework sets out six escalation domains including leadership and governance against which the health boards are assessed.
In line with the processes described within the document Welsh Government officials undertake as assessment against each of the domains at least twice a year. These assessments draw in a variety of evidence and are used by Welsh Government officials to inform the recommendations made to myself, as Cabinet Secretary for health and social care, on the escalation levels of NHS organisations in Wales.
