Question
How does the Welsh Government intend to address anti-social behaviour while funding for local authority security measures, such as CCTV, is being reduced?
Answer
Answered by Cabinet Secretary for Social Justice, Trefnydd and Chief Whip
We are committed to working in partnership to reduce crime and anti-social behaviour in Wales. While policing is currently a reserved matter, we work closely with policing colleagues and other criminal justice stakeholders to engage with communities and support the safety of people across Wales.
In terms of funding for local authorities, in 2025-26 the draft Welsh Government budget provides for £6.1 billion in core revenue funding and non-domestic rates for local authorities to spend on delivering key services. This equates to an average increase of 4.3% or £253 million on a like-for-like basis compared to the current year.
This core funding is un-hypothecated. It is for local authorities to determine the allocation of funding for its services including for activity to prevent anti-social behaviour. I recognise that demand for services, alongside cost pressures mean that Authorities will still need to make decisions on services, efficiencies, and council tax in setting budgets.
