Question
How is the Welsh Government supporting local authorities and community groups to develop community-owned renewable energy schemes?
Answer
Answered by Cabinet Secretary for Economy, Energy and Planning
Welsh Government has been supporting local authorities and community groups in developing community-owned renewable energy schemes for fifteen years. We support community and public sector organisations to take forward projects through the Welsh Government Energy Service. This service provides direct support and access to development funding to communities. We also support Community Energy Wales to work with the sector and to help communities develop projects through their developer arm, Ynni Teg. Through Ynni Cymru we have invested £10 million to support smart local energy systems through renewable energy projects based in communities. Through deploying smart energy systems across Wales, we will gain invaluable insights into the scale of benefits that can be secured for our communities.
