Question
Will the Cabinet Secretary confirm what action the Welsh Government is taking to improve the reliability of public transport in Wales?
Answer
Answered by Cabinet Secretary for Transport and North Wales
We have invested over £1bn to upgrade the Core Valley Lines infrastructure that the Welsh Government is responsible for and £800m to deliver a new fleet of trains. This investment is contributing to performance improvements made by Transport for Wales, which was the most reliable operator in Wales last year.
In 2025/26 we will invest over £140m in the bus sector, which will include significant investment in provision of bus services. We recently introduced the Bus Services (Wales) Bill, which will give us control of the bus network and the framework to improve reliability.
