Question
Will the Cabinet Secretary develop a solar strategy for Wales which includes measures to ensure local workers are employed in the sector and address the issue of workers in the sector not having proper documentation?
Answer
Answered by Cabinet Secretary for Economy, Energy and Planning
The Welsh Government is engaged on the UK Solar roadmap and we will consider a strategy for solar energy, along with all current and innovative renewable technologies, under our Renewable Sector Deal.
The documentation of workers is not devolved to Wales.
However, as part of the Renewable Sector Deal the aim is that where practicable, we will ensure the local workforce can take advantage of the opportunities renewable energy developments offer, which can retain the economic benefits within the host community as set out in our Planning Policy Wales.
We have published our guide, the code of practice on ethical employment in supply chains, and we were the first devolved Government to publish a modern slavery statement, so we work closely to ensure that that is delivered, in collaboration with the UK Government.
