Question
What discussions has the Welsh Government had with the UK Government about whether childcare providers are able to access support via the employment allowance in the 2025-26 financial year?
Answer
Answered by Cabinet Secretary for Health and Social Care
Eligibility for employment allowance is determined on a case-by-case basis. Given the varying size, staffing and business models of childcare settings in Wales, there is not one answer for all.
We advise childcare providers to go directly to HM Revenues and Customs (HMRC) so they may receive specific, consistent and bespoke advice based on their own particular circumstances. HMRC offers guidance on the criteria for those eligible to apply for employment allowance. They are also available to speak to childcare providers should they have questions about employment allowance.
