Question
What economic impact assessment had the Welsh Government undertaken before deciding that all livestock moving from England to Wales will require a bluetongue disease pre-movement test before coming to Wales after 1 July 2025?
Answer
Answered by Deputy First Minister and Cabinet Secretary for Climate Change and Rural Affairs
The Welsh Government is in close contact with the UK Government on Bluetongue control arrangements.
Given the uncertainty about the severity of the disease in livestock dense countries like Wales and the impact of Bluetongue on herd and flock productivity and fertility; it is not feasible to conduct an economic impact assessment at this time. The latest Bluetongue information can be found online at Bluetongue virus (BTV) | GOV.WALES.
