Question
What steps is the Welsh Government taking to evaluate the feasibility of integrating targeted chronic obstructive pulmonary disease case-finding into future lung cancer screening pilots, particularly using low-dose CT scan data showing patients with moderate or severe emphysema?
Answer
Answered by Cabinet Secretary for Health and Social Care
The Welsh Government follows the independent, expert advice of the UK National Screening Committee which does not currently recommend screening for chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD). The national targeted lung screening programme announced on 28 June will have standard protocols in place for the management of incidental findings, including COPD and coronary artery calcification.
