Question
What is the Welsh Government doing to ensure there are employment opportunities in Wales for physician associates?
Answer
Answered by Cabinet Secretary for Health and Social Care
The Welsh Government remains committed to ensuring that public investment in NHS education and training translates into meaningful employment opportunities for graduates.
To support this commitment, Health Education and Improvement Wales (HEIW) leads a dedicated physician associate (PA) recruitment group, which includes representation from NHS Wales health boards, to support students in finding suitable PA roles.
HEIW also maintains real-time data on the PA graduate pipeline enabling employers to plan job opportunities with upcoming graduate availability. In addition, HEIW works closely with education providers to support PA graduates to maintain skills and be prepared for employment when jobs become available.
