Declared interest
Answer
Answered by Deputy First Minister and Cabinet Secretary for Climate Change and Rural Affairs
Hare coursing and its associated issues such as public order disturbances and opportunistic thefts are of great concern to our farming and rural communities. The All-Wales Wildlife and Rural Crime Coordinator has met with farmers and landowners in Wales and also with the police. As a result, Operation Galileo Cymru has been implemented. This operation specifically targets hare coursing and linked offences with a coordinated and robust approach across Wales. Our rural policing teams have already conducted operations to address these issues and swiftly deal with offenders, which can include the seizure of vehicles and their dogs. Further operations are planned across Wales.
