Question
Will the Welsh Government commit to freezing rail fares in Wales?
Answer
Answered by Cabinet Secretary for Transport and North Wales
We are determined to keep the cost of rail travel down for passengers, delivering value for money for the fares they pay whilst maintaining a firm control of public spending. Initiatives such as Pay-As-You-Go ticketing, concessionary fares and discounted products for young people continue to make a big difference to passengers and we are committed to further improving value.
Changes to rail fares in Wales are currently under review, with affordability for passengers a key consideration. This will be assessed alongside the UK Government’s Autumn Budget and associated implications on available funding. Further information will be released in due course.
