Question
How is the Cabinet Secretary working with Menter Môn on their Morlais project to ensure no marine life is harmed during the installation of the infrastructure?
Answer
Answered by Cabinet Secretary for Economy, Energy and Planning
I have met with Menter Môn and the discussions included mitigation measures to ensure local marine wildlife are not adversely affected. This was a condition of achieving their marine licence through Natural Resource Wales.
The Environmental Monitoring and Mitigation Plan (EMMP) developed by Morlais with expert partners will safeguard marine wildlife during the deployment and operation of tidal turbines in the Morlais Demonstration Zone and will monitor each stage of deployment. The work undertaken will contribute to the development and testing of technologies such as active sonar, underwater cameras, acoustic deterrent devices, and thermal imaging along with the surveying of the local marine wildlife to protect them.
