Question
What discussions has the Cabinet Secretary had with Rhondda Cynon Taf Council regarding the speed of recruitment for vacancies in their schools and to ensure that they are operating at correct staffing levels?
Answer
Answered by Cabinet Secretary for Education
Responsibility for recruiting school staff and ensuring that schools are appropriately staffed rests with the local authority and the governing bodies of maintained schools, in accordance with the Staffing of Maintained Schools (Wales) Regulations 2006. These regulations set out the framework for how local authorities and governing bodies must manage staffing matters, including appointments, but they do not prescribe specific staffing levels.
As such, matters relating to the pace of recruitment and staffing sufficiency are for Rhondda Cynon Taf Council to manage in line with their statutory duties and local workforce planning arrangements.
