Question
What is the Welsh Government doing to improve services for people with Tourette's syndrome in west Wales?
Answer
Answered by Minister for Mental Health and Wellbeing
I set out details of the Wales-wide to strengthen services for people with Tourette’s syndrome and tics in my response to the short debate on 21 January.
Hywel Dda University Health Board has piloted a Tourette’s pathway covering Carmarthenshire, Ceredigion and Pembrokeshire. This aims to improve access to diagnosis and test models of care which could be scaled across Wales.
The next meeting of the Neurodivergence Ministerial Advisory Group will focus specifically on Tourette’s syndrome, which will include presentations from John Davidson (who featured in I Swear) and from Tourette’s Action.
We are also exploring the potential of research‑led approaches, including digital behavioural therapy models developed with NHS and academic partners.
A PhD Research into Practice placement has been advertised to conduct a scoping review on the prevalence of Tourette’s syndrome in Wales. This would support improved understanding of need, better planning of services and earlier identification.
