Question
Will the Cabinet Secretary confirm whether a data protection impact assessment was conducted in relation to the Welsh Government's anti-racist virtual world project?
Answer
Answered by Minister for Further and Higher Education
The anti-racist virtual world, commonly referred to as the Metaverse, was developed and delivered by further education (FE) colleges, led by Cardiff and Vale College, as part of the wider FE anti-racism curriculum programme. Since 2024, responsibility for funding decisions related to the resource rests with Medr, the Commission for Tertiary Education and Research.
The Welsh Government does not own, nor has it operated the platform. Therefore, it is not the Data Controller for its delivery or use. As such, no Welsh Government led Data Protection Impact Assessment was required. Any processing of personal data is the responsibility of the Data Controller.
