Question
Will the Cabinet Secretary confirm that all existing clinical lead roles within NHS Wales Performance and Improvement’s national clinical networks continue to operate fully, given the absence of both a Cardiovascular Strategic Clinical Lead and Cardiac Clinical Lead since October 2025?
Answer
Answered by Cabinet Secretary for Health and Social Care
NHS Performance and Improvement is responsible for managing the deployment of its resources and appointing to its vacancies.
Some strategic clinical networks have vacancies in some clinical roles, such as for cardiovascular disease. NHS Performance and Improvement is reviewing clinical leadership vacancies as part of a wider redesign of the organisation to ensure clinical leadership roles are properly aligned to service transformation and whole pathway approaches. Transitional arrangements are in place to ensure continuity of essential work during this period.
