When will the Welsh Government next assess revising the Setting Speed Limits in Wales guidance?

In October 2025, Officials completed a phase of constructive engagement with Highway Authorities. Feedback was positive and has directly informed amendments to the structure, approach and clarity of the draft guidance. Work is underway to update the Setting Local Speed Limits in Wales guidance in line with this feedback
Publication of the final guidance will be a decision of the incoming Government after the Senedd Elections. The guidance remains advisory rather than mandatory. Welsh Government will not require highway authorities to review their whole networks following publication.
