Question
What assessment has the Cabinet Secretary made of the feasibility of expanding the South Wales Metro to Pentyrch?
Answer
Answered by Cabinet Secretary for Transport and North Wales
The Welsh and UK Governments have committed to jointly fund the £100m Cardiff Crossrail Phase 1a project, which will see the construction of a new tram-train link between Cardiff Central and Cardiff Bay station. This will transform travel in the city and is an essential pre-cursor to any future development of the north-west Cardiff corridor scheme. Any further development of the north-west Cardiff corridor scheme will include consideration of extension of services to locations including Creigiau and Pentrych.
We will continue to work closely with Cardiff Council, supported By Transport for Wales, on their ambitions for public transport enhancements in Cardiff, including future extensions of the South Wales Metro.
