Question
How does the Welsh Government intend to reduce absenteeism in schools?
Answer
Answered by Cabinet Minister for Education and the Welsh Language (Anna Brychan)
The Welsh Government is committed to reducing absenteeism through a coordinated, whole-system approach that addresses its underlying causes and impact on learners.
We will fully consider a range of approaches over the coming months, including bringing forward plans to develop a national framework to strengthen collaboration between services, ensuring pupils and families receive timely, coordinated support to improve engagement and attendance.
We will also improve consistency across the system by sharing best practice more systematically between schools at local and national levels, supported by clearer and more consistent arrangements for recording and reporting attendance and behaviour incidents.
