Question
What steps will the Cabinet Minister take to address the failings of Welsh eyecare under the previous administration highlighted by the Sixth Senedd Health and Social Care Committee inquiry into ophthalmology, to ensure it is an urgent priority for NHS performance and improvement action?
Answer
Answered by Cabinet Minister for Health and Care (Mabon ap Gwynfor)
Too many people are waiting too long for NHS treatment, and improving waiting times is a priority.
We are taking forward action to strengthen delivery and improve accountability across NHS Wales, including in ophthalmology. This includes reducing waiting times, improving follow-up care, strengthening workforce capacity, and addressing variation between health boards.
Ophthalmology remains a priority within NHS performance arrangements, and we will continue to work with NHS Wales to deliver sustained improvement.
