Question
What steps is the Cabinet Minister taking to improve connectivity between valley towns?
Answer
Answered by Deputy Minister for Transport (Mark Hooper)
We are improving connectivity between Valley towns with our investment in public transport with the South Wales Metro. Brand new electric trains now run services on the Treherbert, Aberdare and Merthyr lines, with passengers benefiting from cheaper and more convenient Pay-As-You-Go ticketing. The next phase of the South Wales Metro will see faster journeys, followed by a doubling of frequency of services on these lines from next year.
We are also moving forwards with plans for bus reform, which will allow us to improve connectivity between Valley towns and better integrate our bus and rail networks.
