Question
How will the Cabinet Minister ensure proper engagement with staff unions and service users during the condition survey of the University Hospital of Wales to ensure that any plans to rebuild the hospital are informed by the experiences of patients and staff on site?
Answer
Answered by Cabinet Minister for Health and Care (Mabon ap Gwynfor)
Cardiff and Vale University Health Board is the statutory body responsible for planning and delivering healthcare services across its area, including at the University Hospital of Wales. As part of its consideration of future options for the site, I expect the Health Board to engage appropriately with staff, trade unions, patients and service users, to inform any proposals that may come forward. Any proposals for future investment in NHS infrastructure must be considered within the wider context of the £1.4bn estate maintenance backlog inherited from the previous Government.
