Question
Will the Cabinet Minister provide an update on discussions between the Welsh Government, Velindre NHS Trust and other relevant stakeholders regarding the future use of the buildings at the former Whitchurch Hospital site, and what consideration is being given to community, cultural and sporting uses as part of the redevelopment?
Answer
Answered by Cabinet Minister for Health and Care (Mabon ap Gwynfor)
Velindre University NHS Trust, as the current custodians of the Whitchurch Hospital site, are engaged in ongoing commercial discussions with a number of interested parties regarding its future. As this process is live, it would not be appropriate to comment further at this time.
However, I can confirm that Velindre has maintained regular engagement with key stakeholders, including local community representatives and sports clubs. In addition, all parties participating in the commercial process have been encouraged to engage directly with community groups and sports organisations to help inform proposals for the site’s future redevelopment.
