Question
What consideration has the Cabinet Minister given to the education reforms introduced elsewhere in the United Kingdom, and whether elements can be adopted in Wales to improve outcomes for pupils and reduce variation in educational standards?
Answer
Answered by Cabinet Minister for Education and the Welsh Language (Anna Brychan)
Drawing on international best practice our new Foundational Literacy and Numeracy Plan will be published in September. The plan will set out a clear approach to national, school and individual targets for learners, to support improvement and to ensure we can monitor progress nationally. It will also provide clarity on what children should learn and when, strengthening progression and accountability across the system and provide core, evidence-based expectations for teaching literacy and numeracy in every classroom.
