Question
What steps has the Welsh Government taken to ensure the balanced representation of relevant stakeholders on the Greyhound Racing Ban Implementation Group, including animal welfare organisations, the greyhound racing industry, owners, trainers and breeders?
Answer
Answered by Cabinet Minister for Rural Resilience and Sustainability (Llyr Gruffydd)
The Implementation Group was established to support the transition to a ban and provide practical advice to Welsh Ministers. Membership was designed to ensure balanced representation. It brings together stakeholders from the greyhound racing industry, independent veterinary surgeons, local authorities and animal welfare organisations. This ensures that industry, community and welfare perspectives are reflected. The Group may invite additional organisations if further representation is required.
The Group’s aims are to safeguard greyhound welfare during the transition, mitigate impacts, identify best practice, and support the transition away from greyhound racing. Further details are available on the Group’s webpage.
