Question
What assessment has the Cabinet Minister made of the funding pressures for colleges arising from the number of full-time learners in further education?
Answer
Answered by Cabinet Minister for Education and the Welsh Language (Anna Brychan)
Welsh Government recognises that FE colleges are experiencing challenges due to significant increases in learner numbers in recent years and are forecasting further increases in the 2026/27 academic year. Medr has allocated an additional investment of £6.25m, in the 2026-27 financial year to recognise increased participation numbers in tertiary education within FE.
The position is being monitored closely, and we will consider providing additional funding should it be available as part of our wider consideration of the overall government budget position.
