Question
What consideration has the Cabinet Minister given to aligning postal voting rules for Senedd and council elections with rules used for UK elections?
Answer
Answered by Cabinet Minister for Local Government, Housing and Planning (Siân Gwenllian)
The Representation of the People (Absent Voting and Miscellaneous Amendments) (Wales) Regulations 2026 were agreed by the last Senedd and will come into force in November. This will entail alignment between devolved and reserved elections in areas such as online applications, National Insurance number requirements and postal vote renewal timings. Any further changes will be based on our appraisal of what is best for Wales.
