Question
What is the Welsh Government doing to promote Gower dialect of English in schools in Swansea?
Answer
Answered by Cabinet Minister for Education and the Welsh Language (Anna Brychan)
The Curriculum for Wales sets a clear expectation that learners develop an understanding of language, culture and identity, including the diversity within Wales. It does not prescribe the teaching of specific English dialects; however, schools are expected to design curricula that reflect their local context, which may include exploring local linguistic features such as the Gower dialect where appropriate.
