Question
What progress has the Welsh Government made on setting targets for PM2.5 and at least one other pollutant as part of regulations accompanying the Environment (Air Quality and Soundscapes) (Wales) Act 2024?
Answer
Answered by Cabinet Minister for Rural Resilience and Sustainability (Llyr Gruffydd)
A public consultation on draft regulations to implement new, stricter targets for fine particulate matter (PM2.5) was held from 17 November 2025 to 16 February 2026. The summary of responses and the Welsh Government response are expected to be published this summer. Work is progressing to ensure the regulations are made by the statutory deadline of 14 February 2027.
A report on the Welsh Ministers’ consideration of setting long-term air quality targets is also expected to be published this summer.
