Question
What discussions has the Cabinet Minister had with Medr about the mental health of young people in further eduction?
Answer
Answered by Deputy Minister for Skills and Tertiary Education (Cefin Campbell)
Medr continues to support the National Student Mental Health Partnership Programme. Future years will include rolling out the model pioneered by the Mental Health University Liaison Service. The Cabinet Minister has not yet met Medr about the project, but officials meet with Medr on a regular basis.
While Medr has operational responsibility, the Welsh Government expects all learners across the tertiary sector to be able to access appropriate mental health and wellbeing support. We will continue working with Medr and health partners to support effective delivery across Wales.
Both the Cabinet Minister and the Deputy Minister for Skills and Tertiary Education will engage regularly with Medr on learner wellbeing, including mental health in further education. Officials have emphasised the importance of appropriate support and a whole-college approach, with Medr expected to work with colleges and partners to improve learner outcomes.
